Re: [APML] STV, ST-4, and Drive Corrections (was Generic Question-OAG Position???)

Matthias,

Well, there it is in black & white, I'm incorrect on this. You and Matt are
right, the manual sez it all.

I guess it was the 201xt that required the alignment. Of course, the 201xt
did everything wrong. I guess I never unlearned it's evil ways.......

Steve...

Steve,

I read the manual very well (several years ago..).

Regarding the recommendation to orient the CCD head along RA/DE it
clearly says on page 6:

"This adjustment is not critical. The Tracker will work in any orientation.
It just makes it easier to make sense out of the x and y readings
and to use the push buttons if the axes are lined up to the RA and
Declination axes."

That's it. The tracker will work in any orientation.

Sure it's better to align the head (I told you I always do) , because this
way the ST4 has less
work of calculation, and the readings of the display are more useful to you.
But the tracker will work in any orientation.

In fact it were the explanations you gave for the need to align that didn't
sound too
convincing to me. :-)
Frankly spoken, they simply were wrong.

I did both, of course <g>

But more important than reading the manual is understanding
precisely how the ST4 works and what the function of the calibration-
process
is.
