Subject: [APML] Surprise!!! Another Comet Machholz Image

Here's yet another Comet Machholz image. Yes, I'm just full of
them. It's another experiment with Provia 100F. I sure wish Mother
Nature would have been a little more cooperative this night;
unfortunately, she brought in an onslaught of thin cirrus which
dramatically diminished the ion tail. In fact, while I was guiding,
the brightness values on the STV ranged from 2000-4000, the lower
value being a result of cirrus. It rarely achieved 4000, mostly
stayed around 3000. Despite the thin cirrus, Provia 100F still
picked up a nice ion tail, albeit very faint. On the original, it
stretches about 4 degrees. Even though you can't see it in this
image, the star colors are phenomenal. I guess this is why so many
people use Provia 100F for star trails. This was a 90 minute
exposure guided on the comet.

I hope you enjoy,
