Hi Group, I need some advice…. Never able to get focus with camera mounted! I have the Orion TX10 Newton scope which I have been struggling with to
get quality images from for almost the last year! Now, I know it’s possible cause I’ve seen results of others from the
same scope. Some time ago I realized that when mounting the camera I loose collimation
(Two Factors) Camera weight, & adaptor to focuser barrel clearance! So, I installed
a very nice Crayford focuser by Williams Optics thinking this would resole the
problem. Not so! Now I realize that a 0 tolerance fit between the camera adaptor and
focuser barrel are not possible but that’s where my problem still lies. The
focuser is very stable and holds anything I put in it very solid! Collimation (mounting)
of the focuser was checked with several different methods so I know it’s were
it should be! I made a pinhole mask to cover the field flattener lens and then mount
the camera, there-by giving me just a view of the secondary mirror holder.
Viewing thru the viewfinder it’s easy to see that it’s way off! I can loosen
the barrel clamp and get enough movement to line things up but it won’t stay
there. I have some thoughts on how to resolve the problem but thought I’d touch
bases with those whom I know have much more experience! Any ideas would be appreciated. I tried shimming the lens from the bottom side of the focuser thru the
OTA and got close. From my results though it appears this has to be dead on! Thanks Dan K. |
