Re: [APML] New Orion Image Using Provia 100F

Hi Wade,

My experience on Provia 400F is that its blue sensitivity is better than its
red sensitivity. Its color balance is also a little bluish. I would say E200
and Provia 400F are the best combination in terms of high R+B sensitiviy.
On the other hand, I do agree that we can explore more on Provia 100F.
Finer grain is always a big advantage if we can afford the long exposures.
This is why I love Kodak E100S.

Does the image you showed us look just like the slide on a light box?
If yes, perhaps a stronger curve stretch can bring up more faint nebulas.
This is the case for E100S. An hour of exposure at F5 with 1-stop pushing
doesn't show many faint nebulas on the slide. But after a 16bit scan and
some good curve work, the nebulas do show up nicely with fairly good S/N.
I suppose Proia 100F can do the same.

Anyway, this is a beautiful picture. It may not be very deep, but its color
and framing do look good. I feel like I'm watching Orion through my own
eyes or reading a story about Orion. This image makes me feel very
comfortable and I don't mind watching it again and again.

Cheers,

Wei-Hao

ps, Before you go on to the Orion mosaic, how about a mosaic of the
Milky Way? Since its much brighter, 1.5 hr on Provia 100F should be
pretty enough.
