[APML] M81 and M96 with vignetting removed in PILE
Hey all,
I have managed to re-do a couple shots posted recenly. On M81-M82 I ran
it through PILE (PixInsight LE and took out the vignetting, which was
terrible because of the 265 minutes of exposure.

I completely re-did this wide field view of M95, M96, M105, etc... This
was so blue and so dark that I never should have posted it in the first
place. I ran the original raw scan through PILE, and then hit it with
slight levels, curves and an USM in PS. I avoided the urge to insert
color where maybe it should not be in the first place. That was a big
part of my problem with the first image. I *BELIEVE* that when it comes
to clusters and galaxies, processing steps should be scaled back a bit
to let the image speak for itself. Is this a valid point of view? It
might be a little too light now. Anyway, it is here:

M96 is at center, M95 to the lower right. The trio at the top are; top:
NGC 3384, M105 at lower right, and NGC 3389 at left. Upon close
inspection there are a couple or three stragglers here too, but they do
not show on my chart. These would be from the PGC or UGC cataloges.
I'm interested in hearing if there are reactions to these shots after
the recent processing. When I look at them, I see some 'mottling' but
am completely unsure whether it is actually there or not. Nowadays, I
can barely see anything on my monitor at all. 8-)
This brings up another question: why do we typically run Messier
designations together (M95) and not NGCs?
Thanks,
Alan
