RE: [APML] Future of medium format films

The cost of medium format has always been higher than 35mm and the number of options have always been smaller (220 format is practically unavailable now; few choices and no one carries it. 120 format has a few more choices and a bit better availability but you can't count an most photo stores carrying it. Only better stores in larger cities, unless you get lucky.)  Then try to find a lab!

Field flattener, camera are up to you. The Epson flatbed scanners will handle essentially all film formats at 4800 ppi, so I don't think there's a problem there.

Subject: [APML] Future of medium format films

Hi,

it seems the end of 35 mm format films for astrofoto will come soon (Kodak finished with Tech Pan and I think others will follow), but what do you think about the future of 120 format films. Im asking because Im not sure if its worth to buy equipment for medium format astrophoto in this moment (field flattener, medium format camera, scanner).
I think middle format films may stay longer because of the prices of big format CCD chips.

Thank you for any opinion
Radek
