Re: [APML] OT: M82's Galactic Superwind

Good Evening Everybody

This picture exposed by Jim Misti and processed by Robert Gendler of M82
makes us wonder why we spent several hundred million dollars on space-borne
telescopes!!

Though of course I'm joking, the capabilities of the Hubble telescope are
well worth the cost, this astrophotograph remains a tribute to the genius
of the "common man", so to speak. Its an example of what the propelled
human spirit can do. This work was done simply for the love of life, for
curiosity, by people who were seeing how far they could push themselves.

I wish my old professor, Bart Bok, who had studied under Harlow Shapley,
discoverer of the galaxy, could see this image. He would find it
fascinating, as do I.

sincerely,

Glenn Shaw
