I always knew 'black film'
transmitted some IR, but not THAT much.
I remember that when I was a kid
beginning to mess around with optics and telescopes I tried using a piece of
'black film' as a solar filter and it 'bothered my eye'. Now I know why and
I'm lucky it didn't do more that 'bother' it.
