RE: [APML] stacking & adding film images

Jose,

For film, it depends on the depth of the original exposures as to when you add vs blend.  My experience is that you never want to add images, because of two effects.  One the vignette is greatly enhanced and will be difficult to remove.  Second, even two images will easily saturate on a stack, and you'll get blown out stars and central cores of nebulas. A better way is to Multiply them instead.  What you do is convert both to negatives, then stack in PS using multiply instead.  Take the resulting image and then invert for the final image.  This has the same effect exactly as stacking negs in an enlarger.  Again, you still have to be careful on saturating the whites.

Subject: [APML] stacking & adding film images

Does it make sense to stack and add (not average) several film images to get
deeper results resembling CCD procedures ?

For example, I would like to add 4 scanned images of 10 min. each, instead of
a lenghty one.

Is there any software besides ImagesPlus that performs a "clever" addition algorithm ?

Thank you for your comments
