[APML] Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual III

I am considering the purchase of a Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual III Film/Slide
Scanner for scanning in astro photo film negatives and slides. It would be
good to obtain feedback from this group as to the quality of this unit for
astrophotography work. I have seen positve references (March 03) to the
DiMAGE Scan Dual III in the archives but it would be good to see if there
are any more recent experiences and/or opinions. Note also that I am
referring to the Scan Dual III not the Scan Dual II.

 The basic specifications are:

 Film types: negative and positive, colour and b&W
Dynamic Range: 4.8
16 bit a/d conversion
Can distinguish 65536 tonal variations for each colour channel
USB 2.0
Optical input resolution: 2820dpi
Sensor type: 3-line colour CCD (2700 pixles/line)

 Any thoughts on the usefullness of this for astrophotography would be
appreciated. It is available in Australia for approximately $890AUD.
