RE: [APML] OT (slightly) M82 Reds

Geoff, the tecnique deserves more attention, lighten can do wonders for both
types of astro imaging. Nice images!

 Hey Chris...

Nice image... no matter how it was acquired. <g> The technique is very
effective, and actually works intuitively... compared to many other digital
processing steps.

I've experimented with the 'Lighten' mode, too. I did a twist on
Jerry's 'Real Unsharp Mask' technique, seen here:

     http://www.astropix.com/HTML/J_DIGIT/USM.HTM

-- but I added the blurred image in 'Lighten' instead of 'Subtract'. This
did 'sharpen' bright details some, but also smoothed the background in an
even larger amount... enhancing spatial data while removing noise! The image
I'm referring to could use better processing, not to mention more exposure
time, but is located here:

     http://home.att.net/~astropix/M42_135mm.html

Maybe tweak the above original a little more in curves, then add a
blurred copy in 'Lighten' mode... I'll try your technique too, if I ever
evolve into filtered exposures.

 Thanks For The Input... :o)
