Re: [APML]... a manual stacking question

Hey Alan...
In a word... "Yes." In 'Composite' dialog, images may be stacked in pairs, and the 'Amount' sliders are the PW Pro equivalent of 'Opacity' in PS. In PW, you may also quickly adjust the sliders in varying amounts, and sometimes find a combination that looks better than the 100% - 50% - 33% - 25% values.
You may also 'Register' an image, then do the 'Blend' in PW without closing the 'Composite' dialog. If you 'Register' in PW, and combine in PS, click 'OK' in PW's 'Composite' dialog under 'Register' mode, then take that 'Registered' image into PS to do the composite.
The latest version of PW Pro (3.5.) has some new features, including a 'Stack Images' dialog. 'Stack Images' is more of a mean combine function, and will truly average pixel values when each input image is set at 100%. You can add up to 5 images at once, and there is a 'Brightness Curve' dialog for each input image, to allow you to smoothly combine images of varying dynamic range (!) and 'Mask' dialog is active for each input image as well. You still need to 'Register' images before taking them into 'Stack Images'... unless they're *exactly* the same framing.
There's even more wonderfully 'astro-friendly' features in PW Pro's latest offering... I have been experimenting with this for the past couple of months, and I am working on a processing guide to help take advantage of these new features. The guide is not quite finished... some fine-tuning and a couple more pages to go... but the preliminary effort can be viewed from here:

(Thanks Jerry L., Rob G. :-) Finish the guide, then make some HTML pages to display the finished image... I'll certainly post it here when all is done. I do have a 'finished', lo-res image file of the shot I used throughout the guide... you can see this here:

... keep in mind, this is a single frame of 35mm film... :o)
Best...
