[APML] Metaphysical Lenses

Metaphysical Lenses...

Here is another one that is way out there, but apparently not just a joke,
published in the March 24 edition Applied Physics Letters.

http://sci.newsfactor.com/perl/story/21079.html

 From the story:

 >Normal glass lenses that focus light are curved -- either convex or concave.
 >Light passing through a flat glass lens will diverge. Light passing through
 >a flat lens made of metamaterials, however, will bend the 'wrong' way and
focus
 >
 >A metamaterial lens "allows focusing almost two orders of magnitude higher
 >than is possible with conventional lenses," explained Claudio Parazzoli, an
 >associate technical fellow of the Boeing Company.

I can't wait to see what Roland can do with this!

It looks like all of those unemployed philosophers and metaphysicians can
now go into the telescope business. <G>
