RE: [APML] GM-8 advice needed
Alan:
I use the Losmandy dovetail plates with my various mounts and would
recommend them in this case as well as they're easily interchangeable and
stable. You'll need a Losmandy DUP (dovetail universal plate) that will
accept tube rings mounted to the plate so they can slip into the GM-8 saddle
or one dovetail of the side-by-side system. If you have a pair of DUP's
then you create a dovetail platform above to mount a camera or other
accessory, or you can mount the guide scope above the TV 85 (tube over tube)
in another set of rings with the proper adapters.
Some folks use the TV tube ring attached to a DUP or similar but this may
limit the use of anything above it. If this is an imaging system perhaps
the DUP's would be a better choice in my (humble) opinion. You can also use
a G-11 saddle in lieu of the standard GM-8 version, which would provide more
stability to whatever you choose to mount. I use a side-by-side system
(Losmandy DSBS) and a pair of DUP's on each side for twin refractors. I
have a photograph of this set up on my equipment page if you wish to have a
look and have the same system set up on my 1200 GTO (no photos posted yet).
Certainly others will provide alternate suggestions. Hope this helps...

Subject: [APML] GM-8 advice needed
Hi all,
It looks like I've managed to score a GM-8 from astromart. What I need
to know now is: what will I need to mount the TV-85 on it? There is no
adapter of any kind with it. And I'd sort of like to use a side by side
system with the guidescope. I'm just not familiar with the hardare
available. Suggestions, advice welcome.
Thanks,
Alan
