Re: [APML] M13 with Canon 1Ds

Hi Tony,

The images also remind me more of film than CCD. The 1Ds has 5 different color matrices that approximate different types of film and color slides. If the images are captured in raw mode then direct access to the raw unprocessed image data is possible. Using software one can develop the raw image using any of the 5 color matrices. White balance can also be applied to the raw data during software development. Its kind of like take the picture then try it on several different films to see which one is best.

Thanks for the comments.

Mike,

The overall balance seems to be OK.... what I see that's interesting is that your image looks more like a film image than a digital image taken with a CCD... there is a distinct difference in the star colors with a CCD... the old yellows and the blue stragglers plus a few deep red stars... in yours it's more like a typical film image taken with color negative film... monotonic for the most part.  I realize that your sensor is a CMOS chip... I have no idea if this has anything to do with it... I would have thought that a digital receptor have more color sensitivity... thanks for posting this... I am always curious to see what the high end digital cameras can do.
