Re: [APML] New ST-4s
Hey Folks...
Thanks for the hyper-links and encouragement on learning my ST-4... I had
previously printed the pages from Phillip's site, and ran an extra 'Summary'
page which I intend to laminate and keep with my charts, atlas etc. I also have
a Celestron micro-guide EP that I hope to parfocalize with the ST-4. It's
12.5mm fl lends itself to this, or so I've read.
I have some 1 1/4" ID thin wall aluminum tubing that I'll make a stop
collar with... put a couple #4-40 allen head set screws in it, and find the
exact focal point of both units and lock the collar on the EP barrel at that
point. I can then use the grid in the center of the EP reticle to make sure the
guide star is on the chip... once I work out the exact scale of the grid for
that usage. I can also continue to use the EP for alignment, manual guiding, PE
calculations etc.
I can work with the ST-4 from my light polluted domicile, during full-moon
or whenever... I'm sure I'll be posting some questions here when I start
putting it through it's paces. I figured I'd get the thing while the gettin'
was good... and learn it over time.

I shot the first roll here at Brasstown Bald through a 135mm camera lens back
in December... the second roll was used at WSP for 'First Light' through my
*new* TMB 105/650... I hope to post these images soon... they're about my best
ever, and I'm hoping to upload 4 or 5 at once and make all the web pages at the
same time. I'm also trying to learn some processes in Photoshop7... and on and
on and...
Best...
