[APML] OT: Monitor calibration idea
List:
I have wanted a method of accurately calibrating my monitor that was
inexpensive. Visual methods (e.g. Adobe Gamma, Colorifc, PictureWindow ) are
all I have tried. Hardware methods cost more than I want to pay, (see
Pantone Spyder and monitor calibration software, about $288):

The above link is probable too long and will be cut into 2 lines. If so go
to
http://www.pantone.com
select Search, enter photocal , then from the returned results select:
Spyder with PhotoCAL .
At any rate I want a cheap, hareware based monitor calibration. So here is
the idea. Many people have a digital camera. You should be able to take a
picture of a test target (Q60 from Kodak, or Mcbeth Colorchecker) with a
digital camera under standard lighting, to calibrate the camera. Then use
the digital camera to take a picture of a test image displayed on your
monitor to calibrate your monitor. I'm sure there are several gotchas, and
I would not know how you actually do the calibration, but I sure would be
interested if someone tried it.
