Re: [APML] OT: Canon vs Epson clogging

Over the last 10-15 years I have had 4 or 5 Epson color printers all with the
same problems. Like a dumb moth I still keep going towards the flame ! <g>.
With my last printer I decided to look into repairing the clogged head myself
rather than pay the $110 for a replacement. I carefully removed the head and
started to clean the head surface with alcohol then Acetone then every solvent I
could get my hands on using a Q-tip. After this did not work I soaked the head
in a Acetone bath for several days, again with no luck. After this I tried to
inject solvents through the head at a somewhat high pressure again with no luck.
At that point I installed a new color ink cartridge one more time only to see
the exact same streaks I had when I started, plus some more. needless to say,
the whole mess went in the trash pile real quick. I now have a 1270 and try to
at least turn it on several times a month to let the printer do a basic firing
of the heads. My next printer will be an HP, which is what I said 2 or 3
Epson's ago <g>.

Hmmm... you may be right. After thinking a second, I realized that I can't
do that on my Epson 785ETX either. I was remembering about how I cured
similar problems with my old Epson Stylus three ink printer. On that one,
you swapped out the entire print head to change from B&W to color, so that
trick would work with the old printer. I kind of figured if I ever got in a
jam I would do the same think with my new printer, but I guess not! Sorry I
misled you. I guess that trick will not work with the CYMK printers because
we cant remove the print head as a mater of course.

There has to be a trick to get these things fired back up. Anyone else have
something up their sleeve?
