Re: [APML] Monoceros nebulas

Garth -

Yes, I used to shoot from Blair Valley.  It is darker than the Anza site but as is the case with all sites in southern CA, they are rapidly being ruined by encroaching LP.  When I first started going there in 1992, the sky was very dark.  But after about 1998, the western light domes started getting real bad.  If a marine layer does come in, it can still get nice and dark.  However, in the last 2-3 years, that heavy marine layer seems to have taken a vacation.
The campsites are very nice, very private.  No ambient lights etc....  I also think it is drier than the Anza site, I can't ever remember needing to use dew heaters when shooting from there.

A great all around spot for just camping out in the desert.  You have the pictographs, morteros and Ghost Mtn. cabin as hiking destinations too.

Chris,

Thanks. Yea, I agree that the E200 seems well suited for the wide field stuff. I'm trying to shoot more of the dark nebula regions since they show up pretty well.

BTW, as I recall, you used to image from Blair Valley. What were your impressions of the site?

Thanks

Real nice wide field shot!  I love the dark nebula above the Cone Region.
E200 seems to work well with your setup.

Hi all,

Here's a widefield image of the nebulas in Monoceros.

Comments and suggestions welcome...
