Yes, I used to shoot from Blair Valley. It is darker than the Anza
site but as is the case with all sites in southern CA, they are rapidly being
ruined by encroaching LP. When I first started going there in 1992, the
sky was very dark. But after about 1998, the western light domes started
getting real bad. If a marine layer does come in, it can still get nice
and dark. However, in the last 2-3 years, that heavy marine layer
seems to have taken a vacation.
The campsites are very nice, very private. No ambient lights
etc.... I also think it is drier than the Anza site, I can't ever remember
needing to use dew heaters when shooting from there.
A great all around spot for just
camping out in the desert. You have the pictographs, morteros and Ghost
Mtn. cabin as hiking destinations too.
