For image processing there is no "flicker rate".  So it is much
easier on your eye.  

Higher end LCDs do come close to a CRT.  But to the best of my
knowledge unless you are paying multiple US$ 1,000s it isn't
as good as a high end CRT.

Still, if your eyes are giving you trouble I would recommend 
getting one.  Use it for everything but the final colour tweaking
and get either a switch box or a video card with two outputs to
switch to the CRT for the final adjustments.
