[APML] camera viewfinder focusing screen..

Hi list,
          I've got a question. I have an older Pentax 35mm camera. I threw
the scope up on sirius last night, connected the camera, then, while looking
through the viewfinder, I noticed the star showed up as 4 stars forming a
box. As I focused, the 4 stars came to 1 single point, which I am assuming
that it brought it to focus. I went ahead and knifed edged anyway, but was
wondering if I could have just went ahead and used the latter?
