All my images show a dark shadow dividing the tail. The red channel shows this very well, the green not at all, and the blue just a hair. Wally's image (the one just before the Mars images) shows it too at somewhat lower resolution. I believe it's real. Look at the second last comet image in Photoshop, and turn off the blue and green channels. The red channel has a very pronounced shadow.
