Unless you are going to be using a lot of chemistry (like hundreds of
gallons) you shouldn't have to worry. Sure, you can reclaim the silver from
the fixer but at the going price for silver, it is hardly worth it.
There is a misconception that photographic chemicals are terrible toxic
concoctions, this isn't so.
