Hello APML:
For those that are interested
there is a CCD image of the core of Eta Carina Nebula taken with the Megrez 80SD
refractor through an H-alpha filter at:
I believe the Megrez 80SD refractor is made by Williams Optics and
sells for about $650. The fellow (Peter Ward) who took the CCD image had
this to say about it on the SBIG users group:
Hello group,
Thanks for the feedback, for those who were interested,
the image is of Eta carina. (standard candle of the south)
SBIG
ST10e, CFW8 and custom scientific H-alpha 3x 300 seconds.
No I haven't
given up waiting for my AP 155 ;)
It's a great little scope, performing
much better than any camera lens in my aresnal, but I have to say the blue
focus is just average. The spherical correction was down the line, hence the
great result with H-Alpha...which I would imagine would also make it a good
solar scope....watch this space...

field scopes
I hear Williams Optics makes a suberb refractor of short focal length and
it is sold, I think, by Anacortes.

I'm sure you can find a Traveler for lower than
that.

any film shots or links to same for either of these scopes using medium
format? >Also, if there are any other opinions regarding suitable
scopes in the, say 500-800mm f.l. range, with focal ratios 5 to 7, I'd
appreciate hearing about them, especially if there are medium format images
that have been taken with them.
Don't forget to check out the Borgs.
