I wasn't referring to blooming spikes - my camera is already an ABG.  The 
problem with recording bright stars can be seen in any (non manipluated) 
CCD image - it's a sort of "Maltese Cross" effect and the gradation 
immediately surrounding the star is very poor.  Compare images of bright 
stars between film and CCD images and the problem stands out immediately - 
there are hundreds of examples - I was hoping to provide links but I'm 
short of time right now..  anyone with an ordinary digital camera can see 
the same problem with bright reflections / bright lights in the image..
