Even under the conditions your image is still very good.

Your M61 image has a fairly uniform dark gray background with an intensity
of 4000-5000 on a 16 bit scale. Do you prefer this background gray level? It
is really very easy to adaptively reduce the background intensity to around
500-1500 without losing faint stars or part of M61. The reduce background
intensity also increases contrast in M61 slightly.
