Re: [APML] Comet Color
Ulrich;
Interesting, I wonder if the color differences would be effected by
the humidity here in Central Florida? What about observing Comet I-Z at
29.24deg North. Also, the comet is seen in the northern most third of
Zodiacal Light. That shouldn't matter but I thought I'd mention it
because the Zodiacal Light is quite obvious here and several of us were
wishing it wasn't present so as to have a better contrast between the
sky background and the comet.
I observed Comet I-Z with a TV 9mm Nagler Type-VI, TV 19mm Wide
Field, Mead 4000 24.6mm Super Wide, TV 32mm Wide Field. The wider the
field of view the more 'teal' blue the comet appeared. The blue
stretched from just after the central core of the nucleus to about 2/3
the length before becoming too diffuse to maintain its color.
I wonder, remember my mentioning Tom Clark's 36"? People who
observed the comet last night said they could see the Ion Tail, 03-16.
Your visual observation was on 03-10, mine were on 03-14 & 03-15. Could
the differences in the dates indicate a rotation of Comet I-Z so the Ion
Tail laid between the Earth and the Dust Tail to cause the teal blue
colonization? Dunno, I thought the Ion tail always pointed 'outside'
the orbital path. Is the Earth inside or outside of the comet's
parabola?
Thkx for your comment Ulrich...joe :)
