RE: [APML] Re: 8" Reflector decent enough for prime focus AP?

I believe the r200s is in the $1200 price plus the coma corrector and other
accessories you would need to buy and that makes it at least $1600 or more.
I understand your desire to get aperture but i do not really see how you can
cope with the limited budget you have.
My suggestion is to go with the refractor, they usually make very nice
pictures and the 4.7" from orion is more than enough for AP. Most of the
best AP's in the APML are from small refractors anyway.
I also think it could be a good idea to try with a smller SCT like the 5"
from celestron that is considered optically very good.
Good luck,
Fabrizio

something like a AstroView 120mm EQ Refractor from Orion with the dual-axis
drive for about $600.

Hi Bruce,

I looked at that scope, which is a 4.7". That brings up a fundamental
question that a tenderfoot like me can't answer: What is the real trade-off,
visually as well as photographically, between a 4.7" and an 8" scope?

Best,

Rex
