I agree also, if you really are interested in photography then invest in decent
GEM.. recently a Losmandy GM8 was for sale in astromart at $800, a very low
price... this is the MINIMUM mount that can be used with a lightweight 8"f4
newt.. but it would work very well with a 90-100 refractor, achromat or apo and
many telephoto lenses. The mount is the critical thing in astrophotography. Save
your pennies a little bit longer.
Of course, once you have a good GEM then you can do all kinds of things,
including visual work with a steady view.
