Hi Stefan,
For film or CCD?
For film:
Registar for automatically registering images, but you can't do any
processing in it. Excellent program for what it does, but kind of expensive
for how specialized it is.
Picture Window - you can register images, but you have to do it by hand. Ok
for registering. Pretty good for processing. Good 16 bit functionality.
Very reasonably priced. A very good choice if price is a consideration or
if you want it all in one package.
Astroart - not familiar with that one.
Photoshop - you can register images, but it is really very very difficult.
Good for processing. Ok 16 bit functionality. Very expensive.
Unfortunately, it's pretty much what everyone uses. You'll find the most
support for processing astro images in photoshop from other
astrophotographers, although there are some who use Picture Window who
might be able to help.
For CCD:
Maxim DL - by reputation
Astronomical Image Processing - looks very promising.
I'll let others who are more knowledgeable about CCD comment on these.
