Chuck, looks like just a bad experience for me.  Ive been using D19 for so
long, that perhaps I should take a second look at the D76.  I appreciate you
bringing me up to date.

Chris,

I don't know exactly what you mean by "used straight" but I mix them up
according to the instructions on the package. Do you have a roll of
35mm TP that has the paper insert? It gives the contrast index for
the various developers and D76 is in the middle. I have a negative
taken with the 350mm-f/2.8 lens of NGC7000, 2 exposure and developed
in D76. It recorded the same faint nebulosity but lower contrast
than a 1 hour exposure developed in D19.
