Try the lens first and see. You may decide you do not need a
filter at all.

if you do decide to spend money on a filter for any reason, spend
the extra cash and get a B+W brand filter. They are expensive,a nd can be
hard to find. For me, they are sometimes a specail order and a six month
wait from Germany if you need an odd size.
However, when you get into large diameter fitlers, I am not always
100% sure about just how optically flat some of these filters are. Even
for daytime use. I imagine most filters are pretty good, but sometimes I
just wonder. Never had a problem with any size or type of B+W fitler I
have ever used, in any application.
When you blow the bucks on a good lens, from my limited
experience, a good filter does make some difference.
