Re: [APML] dovetail systems, help!

Hi Again Roland,
One thing I neglected to mention (and everyone always does) which you
hopefully haven't discovered yet, is THE ONLY THING keeping the mount from
freely rotating (falling) around either axis is contact with the worm gears.
This is also why I often say to keep the clutches loose when moving the
scope by hand and during transport.
Jarring or pushing hard against the tightened clutches just transfers the
force directly to the worm gears, and ultimately to their components or
holding screws. Given enough force something has to give and hopefully it's
ONLY the bearing block screws!
Don't let the thing go "ca'thunk" from top heaviness if you remove a worm
gear, like all us Losmandy users learn eventually and usually to our dismay.
I didn't know you had an MI-250, never heard a bad thing about those, except
maybe lack of a polar scope on older models maybe.

Best Of Luck,

Jim Vineyard
