[APML] Getting started for 1000$

Dear Chris,

first of all thanks to all of you, for all your advice.

To answer your question, I've done Hyakutake and Hale-Bobb with a
50mm lens on a simple tripod and on a GEM (Vixen *New* Polaris)
without drives. I've done a total solar eclipse (Austria 1999) at
the prime focus of a 114/900mm newton (which still is back in
Germany).

Concerning all the info I've got here, I just see what I've known
before: 1000$ is very little money to do astrophotography. The
issue with buying used stuff is that I don't know enough about
mounts to tell wether the one I am buying is okay or not.

Now just trying to cook up a scenario taking into account all the
advice:

- Buy a used GP or similar mount
- Buy a small used refractor for guiding
- Buy a reticle eyepiece
- Buy a telephoto lens 100-300mm
- Learn how to use this stuff
- Meanwhile forget about prime focus till I am willing to spend 3
times the money.

What about that one? In any case I am going to a trustworthy
dealer in two weeks and will have a look at the Meade and ask his
opinion.

Thanks,
Patrick
