Well, there are a number of options. 

If it was me and wanted to get started in AP, I would look for a used
8" SCT on astromart. It is not the best platform for high res work, but
then again it sounds like you're not there yet anyway. The SCTs come
complete with the entire platform you need; OTA, mount, and tripod. 

No matter which way you go, a thousand bucks won't get you much, but it
can get you started. I have not used Celestron SCTs, but I've had a
couple Meade LX200s. They are an excellent, inexpensive, all-around,
entry level platform.
