Re: [APML] (OT) String theory?

Einstien fudged the numbers because the idea of an expanding unverse or one contracting was a totally alien concept in 1918. The galaxies as seperate island unverses had not been conclusivly proven at the time that was still 4 years into the future, Remember the great debate during the 1920's between Harlow Shapley and H.D. Curtus? The only viable hypothesis for the Universe when Einstein was thrashing out his Special and General theories of Relativity was the steady state model. Come to think of it how the Stars shine was not to be hashed out for another 18 years consequently the age of the sun and the age of the Universe was a total unknown at that time. Scienctists of that period had to work with what they knew in their day they could not simply could not go off and concoct something with no support. Einstein was truely doing something extraordinary in his day same for Newton in his day.

Logic demands that *something* has always existed. Or else we have something creating itself which totally violates any logical reasoning. It's amazing to see all the hoops that scientists jump through to come up with a "scientific reason" for the big bang. Einstein's cosmological constant was one of these "hoops". It allowed him to fudge the numbers enough so that he could try to hang on to the steady state model of cosmology. Steady state says the universe always was, thus satisfying the need for something to always exist. But alas it appears the universe actually began and lots of people just aren't comfortable with that including Einstein. He later admitted it was his "biggest blunder".
