Logic demands that *something* has always existed.
Or else we have something creating itself which totally violates any
logical reasoning. It's amazing to see all the hoops that scientists jump
through to come up with a "scientific reason" for the big bang. Einstein's
cosmological constant was one of these "hoops". It allowed him to fudge the
numbers enough so that he could try to hang on to the steady state model of
cosmology. Steady state says the universe always was, thus satisfying
the need for something to always exist. But alas it appears the universe
actually began and lots of people just aren't comfortable with that including
Einstein. He later admitted it was his "biggest blunder".
