CCD (was RE: [APML] Fw: images)

We go through this every couple of years. And the arguments
never change as far as I see.

Here is what was decided:

1) This list is for film. There are no other lists for film.

2) If you want to discuss solely CCD work then there are numerous
places that you can go, including another list that I manage which
is called by the obscure name of CCD. Send a message with "subscribe
ccd" in the body to <majordomo@listserv.wwa.com> if you wish to
join that one.

3) There are certain posters (Rob Gendler is one and Tony Hallas
is another) who have contributed substantially to this list in
discussions of image processing that is appropriate to film.
They would have to cause quite a bit of trouble to offset the
goodwill that has been built up. But even so I've still nagged
once or twice over putting processing information in their posts.

4) If you want to discuss the processing of CCD images that is
welcome as the procedure after you scan a negative nowadays is
quite similar. What I try to discourage is the "here's my latest
CCD image" post. It's just not appropriate here. Nor would be
posts about EPs (unrelated to guiding, that is.)

Yes, sometimes things wander a little OT. When that happens
people just need to nudge the boat back into the right direction.
Those doing the nudging need to be polite about it, and those
being nudged need to understand that this isn't a knock against
themselves nor CCDs, but just trying to keep the SNR high
in regardsing to discusing film images.
