Re: [APML] PENTAX 6X7 FOCUSING PROCESS QUESTION

This is the way to go all right. One added tip...use double stars like Mirach or the one in the handle of the big dipper.

Hello John:

You need a camera where you can remove the focusing hood (like the Pentax 6x7).  Get a good small high power loupe (10 - 22X) from a camera store and make a mounting bracket (I used modelers plywood) that will hold the loupe the correct distance from the focusing screen so it will be in focus.  This should be done in daylight.  For my Pentax 6x7 I used the connecting pins to hold my bracket in the correct position.  I drilled a hole in the bracket to hold the loupe over the correct portion of the screen -- the small para-central ground glass ring on the standard P67 screen.  Now when you go out to do your astrophotography, the bracket will hold the loupe over the correct area of the screen and it will be at the correct distance from the screen.  Now just center a star and focus your telescope.  Using this technique makes it easy to focus and I have never had a failure.

Subject: [APML] PENTAX 6X7 FOCUSING PROCESS QUESTION

Hi group,
Is there any way to focus directly on the focusing screen, and if so, what is the best way?
Thanks
John
