Maybe you can give it a try to non-astronomics things , just for the fun :) That's what I've done yesterday when I saw a beautiful clouds formation just after sunset !!!

Well, I bought one after seeing the posts here, but the weather in NY
has been abysmal, so it hasn't seen any use (yet). And I may not be
able to get out of the city this weekend to try (assuming the weather
makes it worthwhile...).

But I'm glad to know I should leave the filter in place....
