In general, keeping film "in the camera" for a long time doesn't hurt the
film if not subjected to hot conditions.
BUT......film is probably the cheapest part of the astrophotography process.
I think it's important to see my results as soon as possible for at least two
reasons, the first being the gratification of seeing that everthing worked
properly and the second, seeing that something didn't work properly. In the case
of the latter, I can correct the problem before ruining anymore film.
Instead of keeping your rolls of film in 36 exposure lengths, you can get
reloadable cassettes and cut down the length to 12 or 18 exposures. This requires
a darkroom or changing bag but is not all that difficult.
