George, the 1000mm focal length with a 2x barlow will only get you 
2000mm and Mars is tiny even as close as it is. On 35mm film I bet you 
won't record anything but a dot. I have put a 2x apo barlow in the light 
path on my 1000mm Vixen achromat and I can just fill the frame with the 
crescent moon! On that point, the Meade #140 barlow is an apo but the 
cheaper ones are not. Interesting question re eyepieces, with four or 
five elements in the Plossls, I would expect they are apo.
