As far as I'm concerned, the jury is still out on side by side guiding.
I have just recently set up the same system on my GM-8 and don't have
nearly enough results yet to say how well it's doing. Maybe by the end
of summer. The last 2 years I used an over/under system on an older Tak
mount and I'm hoping the new one will work better. As long as you take
the time to eliminate all flexure points it should work fine. I went to
Losmandy because it allows me to use an autoguider (ST-4) without a lot
of hassle.

I use a 70mm Skywatcher now, although I'm thinking about a bigger one.
It's actually a good guidescope. Gives pinpoint stars and has double
lock down screws plus a focus lock screw. Astromart is not a bad place
to look for one but you might need to be patient. It might be a week or
two before you see one that you like.
