As others have pointed out, the stats show it is an even split between
800x600 and 1024x768. I generally aim at 800 for the width and ignore
the height. Yeah, that's not really best, but....
I have this obsessive-compulsive streak that forces me to use
"computer screen" sizes for my images--- 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768,
1200x1024, etc. I generally default to the 640x480 which means the
image plus some text and all the surrounding browser borders, menus,
etc., will fit on the screen of someone using 800x600. I also have
links to redisplay the page with larger sizes.
When I start feeling like being fancy, I'll probably replace the links
with JavaScript to change the image source rather than reload the
whole page....
