I know what you mean. Nevertheless, a Schmidt camera is not a very flexible
general purpose telescope. So unless the Schmidt offered something special,
a refractor is a much more useful instrument. At least you can look thru
one. So for all the pain of using a Schmidt, it better offer something
additional to a refractor for imaging. That something, IMHO is fast optics
with the ability to get very high resolution results with Tech Pan and
widefields at the same time. This combination is only available in a Schmidt
camera or a variant of this design.
