[APML] OT: Ash Lurie 200 Astrograph

Hi,

We have discussed this camera before but I just wanted to get an idea if
anyone here might be interested in purchasing such a camera provided it
works as advertised. You can read about this camera at:

http://www.astrosystems.nl

I believe the price including a 6x6cm film holder is approximately $7000.
Let me know what you think. Is it too expensive? I expect the performance of
this camera to outresolve an 8" F/1.5 Schmidt camera by 1.7X. It has a FL of
500mm vs. the 8" Schimdt which has 300mm. You exposures will be longer than
the 8" Schmidt.

Astrosystems has approached me to see if I would know what the demand for
such a camera might be. I certainly do not know so I am posting this to APML
to see what you folks think. They are considering exiting the film camera
business if there is no demand. If this is the case, this might be the last
in a breed of high resolution widefield cameras available. We may never see
another commercial product such as this as CCDs seem to be more prevalent
nowaways. I expect such a camera to continue to outperform a CCD camera in
the near future for widefield shots, but who knows what might happen in 5
years.

Loke
