Yes this is the type I just bought and I'm very happy with it.  And yes, 
the base is 3/8", and I had trouble finding the right bolt to fit it - 
no luck at Home Depot, had to get my mechanic friend to dig through his 
bucket o' bolts.  I think the smaller model ball joint comes with a 1/4"
adapter.
