Something temporarily obstructed the entire FOV, since
almost every star trail is interrupted.  You didn't
cap the lens, since I can see traces of the trail
inside some of the gaps, but not others, suggesting
that the obstruction was not solid.

I don't think this was due to passing clouds, since in
that case there would be residual glow that would
washout the exposure.  So I'm betting on something
dark, like smoke (? from where), that temporarily
obstructed the view close to the observing dome. 
Either that or a really dense flock or birds, or
planes, or locusts!
