Hey Bill... focusing through a telescope is a critical step in achieving
desired results... but in the end, what ever works best for the individual
photographer is the method to use. I use OM-1n's with Beattie Intenscreen's for
my prime shots... I've still got some issues to work through, but focusing
doesn't seem to be one of them!
Don't feel bad about your difficulty with the STI unit... according to Richard
I bought the first ever 'previously enjoyed' STI unit on Astromart. Here's the
best results I got with it... see: http://home.att.net/~astropix/M8_M20.html
... as you can see, focus is soft. Same set-up, focused with with the Beattie
Fresnel screen... http://home.att.net/~astropix/M_31.html ... IMHO, *Use what
works best for you!* Fast systems do require more precise focusing, but if
you're there - you're there !!! It matters *not* how you arrived! :O)
