Depends on (1) how accurate your polar alignment is, (2) how far away
the star is, and (3) how wide-field your shot is.

I have routinely guided on stars 30-degrees aware when shooting film
with a 50mm lens after a drift alignment.  I have often resorted to
this primarily because with my old 60mm Tasco as a guidescope, I can't
see all that many stars bright enough to guide on without
eyestrain....
